Fostering The Future: Let's Hear it for Pat Robinson, 62
In its May 22 issue American Profile.com celebrated foster mother Pat Robinson, 62, who has welcomed children into her heart and home for 15 years in Stratford, Conn.
As we come to the close of National Foster Care Month in America, let us join the praise for a woman with two birth children who, after retiring from IBM, took the responsibility for raising eight foster children in her family.
"She treats us like we're hers," says Quanitra McCray, 18, who has lived with Robinson since 2002. "If I was still with my mom, I'd probably be on the streets right now."
McCray's story by writer Marti Attoun in American Profile is one of unusual caring and perseverance on Robinson's part, which has been rewarded not just by McCray's development and recent entrance into college, but by the praise of her natural born sons. Kareem, 33, who owns a security company in Bridgeport, Conn., says, "In order for kids to succeed, there usually is one person who believes in them and is a mentor. In a lot of different cases, Mom made that difference."
